Yuri Turchyn, a pioneering spirit, left an indelible mark as a seasoned musician, accomplished recording producer, and audio engineer. His legacy as a founding member of Kinderhook Creek and Kinderhook was a big package to unwrap and discover what it was like for young, naive, upcoming musicians back in the day before the music industry took control of the business. Influenced by 1960s and ’70s folk music, Buffalo Springfield and the Beach Boys, Kinderhook Creek sparked a forever following at the Jersey Shore and beyond with fiddle, original songs, and harmonies, where rivers and sweet hellos were left behind for a picture show.
Episode 1, The Early Years of Kinderhook Creek, 1975, starts with insights from Jerry Kopychuk, a fellow bandmate and founding member of Kinderhook Creek, their beginnings, and in two years, make a significant impact at the Schaefer Music Festival in Central Park, which captivated a crowd of 25,000 music lovers. That was just the beginning of their journey.
Episode 2, Country Music and Arrangements, with fellow Kinderhook band member Jerry Kopychuk, a conversation about the seminal days fusing genres with creative arrangements of cover tunes and the instruments involved that took the band to another level and playing sphere. With an unmatched singing voice and original songwriting, Yuri loved exploring diversity in music genres and wanted to do things that challenged him and stretched his abilities. Check out Kinderhook Acoustic this Sunday, September 15, at Middle Valley. For more information, visit the Kinderhook Facebook page.
