20 Years of Podcast Love
Christina Kotlar Turchyn
I’ve spent much of my life in the company of films, filmmakers, artists, musicians, writers, critics, programmers, and the wonderfully curious people who gather around them. My work has taken me through film festivals, screening rooms, production offices, classrooms, cultural organizations, podcasts, panels, archives, and countless conversations about movies and people who make them. I am a producer, writer, editor, interviewer, programmer, and lifelong film enthusiast. My interests have always moved beyond the screen — into the history behind a film, the people who made it, the technology that changed how it was created and shared, and the communities that grew around it.
Insights from an insider
I’ve always been interested in what happens around the film itself. Who discovered the filmmaker? Where did the idea come from? What happened behind the scenes? How did a film find its audience? What does a festival make possible that might not happen anywhere else? Those questions have led me down some fascinating paths — sometimes historical, sometimes personal, and often completely unexpected. Tread on the heels of the White Rabbit and follow the threads. There is usually more to the story.
The Film Festival Experience
A film festival can be a temporary world of its own. Filmmakers, actors, critics, artists, musicians, programmers, students, and audiences come together around a shared curiosity. There are screenings, certainly, but also conversations in hallways, questions after the credits, panels, workshops, receptions, music, exhibitions, chance encounters, and collaborations that may continue long after the festival ends. That sense of discovery is what continues to draw me in. This is a place for those stories — the films, the people, the history, the ideas, and the moments that make the experience worth remembering. Welcome to my world. See you at the movies.
