The announcement for the induction of the New Jersey Hall of Fame Class of 2012 in February was disappointing because first woman filmmaker, Alice Guy Blache was snubbed again. For the past four years, the Fort Lee Film Commission, New York Women in Film & Television and Women in Film & Television International have petitioned the New Jersey Hall of Fame for Madame Blache’s recognition as a major contributor to the vast history of filmmaking in New Jersey, the birthplace of the motion picture industry. At this time last year, members of the New Jersey Hall of Fame (formerly New Jersey Sports Hall of Fame) conceded on the oversight commenting that Grover Cleveland was overlooked as well.
When it was brought to their attention that 2012 will be the centennial of the Solax Studio, owned and operated by Alice Guy Blache along with Universal and Keystone Studios, there was talk of putting Alice Guy on the nomination list and depending on the voting public, whether she would be inducted. Hard to believe that Annie Oakley got in and Alice Guy Blache did not, but then again Annie Got Her Gun.
