The Spirit Awards take place the day before the formal Academy Awards, on a beach, kick back and more relaxed yet inspiring. This year, while all Spirit Award nominees have the option to mail DVD screeners to Independent Film Project members for voting consideration, 12 nominated films participated in the mailing, including 20 Feet from Stardom, The Act of Killing, Blue Caprice, Concussion, Fruitvale Station, Gideon’s Army, Go for Sisters, In a World…, Inside Llewyn Davis, Short Term 12, The Square and Nebraska directed by Alexander Payne which has six 2014 Film Independent Spirit Award nominations (including Best Feature and Director) and six Oscar nominations (including Best Picture and Director).
I get a little confused with “Film Independent” and “ Independent Film Project aka IFP”, but always recognize their efforts for setting up theatrical screenings to provide an ideal experience for viewing the Spirit Award-nominated films. The New York chapter is hosted in the NY Media Center just off the F train at the York Station in Brooklyn. Members were able to bring one guest to the screening. Great way to see the nominated films.
About Independent Film Project (IFP)–the nation’s largest independent film non profit, offers workshops for film directors, producers and writers with information on production, distribution, finance, navigating film festivals, etc. AND essential membership benefits like a great health benefits plan with solid administrative assistance in the crazy but necessary world of healthcare reform. We’re holding onto our hats as the different levels and changes get sorted out. So far, so good and we’re covered. Looking into other things. Stay tuned.
