Fort Lee Historical Society Celebrates Women’s History Month  with Reel Jersey Girl Museum Exhibit and Guest Speaker Christina Kotlar of New York Women in Film & Television

The Fort Lee Historical Society and the Fort Lee FIlm Commission invite the public to our Tuesday, March 13 at 8 p.m. program for Women’s History Month.  New York Women in Film & Television (NYWiFT) member and Fort Lee Film Commission volunteer Christina Kotlar will speak on the life of Alice Guy Blache, the first woman director in cinema history. Madame Blache built Solax Studio in Fort Lee one hundred years ago and here she produced, wrote and directed hundreds of films here before women had the right to vote in America.  The event takes place at the Fort Lee Museum at 1588 Palisade Avenue, Fort Lee, New Jersey.  This program is free to the public.

The Fort Lee Film Commission and Fort Lee Historical Society have opened the new exhibit Reel Jersey Girls: A Centennial Celebration of the Women Filmmakers of Fort Lee.  This exhibit which runs through July 7, 2012 and includes many rare archival photos including a case of photos from Fox Studio star/sex symbol Theda Bara. These photos, on loan from film historian Joe Yranski, were part of Ms. Bara’s personal scrapbook.  The museum hours are Saturday and Sunday noon to 4 p.m., Wednesdays 7-9 p.m. and for groups during the week by appointment.  Call 201-693-27630 or visit www.thefortleehistoricalsociety.org or www.fortleefilm.org for further info.
